Takasaki, Harmony of city and nature

Takasaki is Gunma’s largest city, conveniently located in the centre of Honshu, and served by a number of expressways and shinkansen lines. Popular Takasaki tourist destinations include Shorinzan Daruma-ji temple, Kannonyama with its Byakui statue, and Mount Haruna with its nearby shrine.

Renjaku Aun

Renjaku aun is a stylish cafe/shop in central Takasaki city. Newly opened in 2023, it sells take-out lunches, drinks (including beer), and local vegetables. The fried horse mackerel sandwich is delicious and highly recommended.

Takasaki KouenTei / Queen’s Garden

Takasaki Kouen Tei (literally “park harbour”) is a small Russian restaurant located at the south entrance of Takasaki Park, specializing in borscht and jarred mushrooms. The restaurant has just two tables, giving it the atmosphere of a private space, from where you can look out at the park to a soundtrack of chirping birds.

nōfu

“Nōfu” means farmer in Japanese, and this cafe is run by Shibazaki Farm. It prepares seasonal vegetables grown in the fields in front of the cafe alongside local farm goods. It also has a space selling local Gunma products.

Orionza is a cafe built on the site of an old movie theater. It offers coffee, sweets, and Southeast Asian cuisine. It has approximately 20 seats, creating a relaxing space.
