Kanayama Castle was built in 1469, and today the earthen mounds and stonewalls are well preserved. It was selected as one of the “100 Great Castles of Japan”. The castle ruins are on a small hill and can be seen while enjoying a couple of hours hiking. Nitta Shrine stands within the area.

Rakuraku is an upscale (expensive!) shabu-shabu restaurant where you are served by waitresses in kimonos. Each dish is delicious and worth the high price.

Hisaeya Ryokan is a hot spring hotel and the onsen is also available to day trippers. It is a small, quiet ryokan deep in the mountains with few tourists, and is a 30-minute drive from Takasaki Station.

Yamana-Hachimangu is a local shrine with an eight hundred year history, located adjacent to Yamana Station. The colorful main shrine was beautifully restored some time ago. There is a cafe and a bakery in the grounds. A market is held here once every two months.

Mikuriya is a small restaurant in a renovated private home in Kanna district. The owner/chef cooks and serves healthy meals with lots of vegetables. The menu is limited, but she can cater for allergies and food preferences if you let her know when making a reservation.
Opening hours: 11:00-18:00 Friday to Sunday (Closed Monday to Thursday)
Due to the limited number of seats, reservation is recommended.
A 10-minute walk from Takasaki Station, this restaurant without a sign is tucked away in a quiet residential area. It serves a fixed menu with sushi as the main dish, and the chef prepares the sushi at the counter in front of you.
